I am sorry it has taken me this long to do it but here's an update :D First and foremost: My son Miko is getting a baby brother this summer and we couldn't be happier! I truly feel blessed and look forward to meeting my new son! Second of all, let me assure you that the Green Lizard mourning period is officially over! The past couple of weeks I have been playing with different musicians from all over the country, to try out my newly written songs. And let me tell you, I am having a blast rocking these new tunes!! I am also glad I have good ear plugs, because they are very, very loud!! Hopefully I will be able to finish writing, and recording these songs before august (baby/diaper time), and with the help of some very talented people that might just be possible! I have no idea what will happen to these songs once I have recorded them but hopefully I will be lucky enough to get them out there so I can share them with you and of course play them live in a venue near you! Ik voel me echt erg gezegend en hoop dat alles goed gaat natuurlijk! Op de tweede plaats wil ik jullie laten weten dat wat mij betreft de Green Lizard rouwperiode officieel voorbij is. De afgelopen weken heb ik het geluk gehad om mijn nieuwe nummers te kunnen uitproberen met allerlei muzikanten in het land. Het was heerlijk om ze eens met meerdere mensen te kunnen doornemen en spelen, om zodanig een gevoel te krijgen hoe ze in een een live situatie gaan klinken! Gelukkig heb ik oordoppen want de nieuwe tracks gaan kei en kei hard! Met een beetje mazzel kan ik genoeg nummers afschrijven en opnemen voor de zomer! People have been asking me a lot what's going on with my life, whether or not Green Lizard will be doing anything anytime soon and If I still make music at all... So here's the scoop. The past couple of months I have been very busy with a couple of things... First and foremost, together with my wife Wendel I am trying to raise my son Miko. And let me tell you, that's one difficult job. It's a blessing to watch him grow up, and the amount of daily kisses I get really make up for the sleepless nights we are having! He already knows a lot of words and the other day he said his first sentence.. “Papa taar” which translates to “Daddy Guitar”. I am so proud. Next to being a husband and a dad I also went out and got myself a new education. I am proud to announce that I have completed my studies in Advanced Character Animation. As some of you might know I have always been very interested in animation and film making, and I felt I needed to bring it to the next level. I have been fortunate enough to be taught by some of the industries best Animators who work at Pixar, Dreamworks and Disney to just name a few... I am not sure where this will take me in the future, but I just want to keep learning stuff so that's why I did it. I will be traveling to San Fransisco later this year to collect my Diploma! On the music front I have been working with a very cool band from around Eindhoven called Left. I have known them for quite some time now, ever since they opened up for Green Lizard a while back. They completely blew my socks of back then, so I was very happy when they approached me to produce their debut album. After some days of hard work in their own rehearsal studio we went to the new Source Studio in The Hague where together with Master Engineer (and a fine producer himself) Oscar Bor we recorded 12 killer tracks... They are being mixed by Oscar as we speak and next week I'll be going back to The Hague to finish them up with him. As for my own music, yesterday I went back to my own studio and recorded the beginnings of a new track.. still not sure where I am going with it, but I already opened up a new myspace account... Hij vertelt me dat hij geen energie meer heeft om aan een nieuwe plaat te werken. Alsof de hagedis zijn laatste adem uitblaast, flitst onze historie aan mijn ogen voorbij:  14 jaar in 14 seconden, van het donkerste krakershol in Frankrijk tot het hoofdpodium op Sziget. Ik knipper een keer en hoor mezelf praten:  “ Dan is het einde oefening, ik zal brian bellen...” Brian is namelijk op vakantie, zelf ben ik nauwelijks terug. Lekker thuiskomen zo. Brian vertelt me dat hij serieus overweegt om helemaal niet meer terug te komen. De dagen erna leef ik in een roes. Ik kan nergens anders meer aan denken. Ik besef dat ik voorlopig geen muziek meer zal maken, althans niet serieus. Ik heb geen hobby-band die ik als uitlaatklep kan gebruiken. Een paar dagen later bel ik de jongens op om eens te jammen. Een beetje verloren staan we met zijn drieen een uur lang te raggen in D. “Dit moeten we maar niet te vaak doen” zeg ik. Verslagen loop ik weer naar huis. Inmiddels heb ik het op de site gezet. “We weten niet  wanneer en of we überhaupt nog terugkomen.” Helaas berusten de woorden op waarheid. Ook verander ik onze Myspace pagina. De prominent aanwezige groepsfoto maakt plaats voor wat vage engelen. Het leven gaat verder.  Jay is aan het toeren met zijn andere band. Op internet lees ik dat hij de beslissing al meer dan een maand geleden heeft gemaakt. Verslagenheid maakt plaats voor woede. Ik baal dat ik serieus op mijn vakantie tijd heb ingedeeld om muziek te schrijven in plaats van op het strand te liggen met mijn vrouw en kind. Verdomd dat is waar ook, ik heb al muziek geschreven. Ik zoek mijn reistas en vis daar mijn laptop uit. Voor ik het weet zit ik naar allemaal kleurige waveforms te kijken. Samen vormen ze het eerste nummer speciaal geschreven voor onze geaborteerde plaat. Dan druk ik op de spatiebalk en het intro snijdt me in mijn ziel. De komende vier minuten verdwijn ik van de aarde en suis ik langs mijn emoties. Als de laatste noten uitklinken kom ik langzaam weer terug in onze woonkamer. Maar er is iets veranderd. Woede heeft plaatsgemaakt voor vastberadenheid. Ik besef dat ik nog lang niet klaar ben met muziek maken. Ik heb nog teveel te vertellen. Alleen een gek zou na zoveel jaar ploeteren zich laten tegenhouden door een hobbel in de weg. Dagelijks schrijf ik nieuwe muziek. Het ene moment denk ik dat ik op de goede weg ben,  het andere moment weet ik niet hoe snel ik de delete knop moet indrukken. “Einde oefening.” Ik had het niet beter kunnen verwoorden. Maar na al die jaren drummen is de koek op. Roeland gaat wel verder met zijn folkband We-nun Henk. Green Lizard gaat op zoek naar een nieuwe drummer. Roeland Uijtdewilligen has decided to leave the band Green lizard. In his twelve years of playing drums with the band he has had many wonderful experiences, such as playing on Pinkpop, Lowlands, Roskilde, Sziget, The Vans Warped tour and most recently their tour with Skin (skunk anansie). Green Lizard is about to start touring Europe even more and after all these years Roeland's physical condition just isn't up for it anymore. On the first of April Roeland will play his last show with the band. This will take place during the FRET-A-Live festival in the Melkweg in Amsterdam.
